What is FriendBell?
A parent-controlled calling app for kids aged 4–12. Children tap a friend's photo to ring them. There's no messaging, no social feed, no search — just approved friends and a big Call button.
Is it voice-only or is there video?
Voice by default. Video is off for every child until a parent turns it on. Video only works when both children's parents have enabled video for their own child. If either parent's toggle is off, the call falls back to voice automatically.
Can kids do group calls?
Only if the parent enables group calling for that child. When it's on, kids can talk with up to four friends in one call. Every participating child's parent must have enabled group calling for their own child — if any parent's toggle is off, that child can't join.
How do I turn video or group calling on or off?
Open the parent dashboard, tap the child, then Edit. Toggle Video calls and Group calls for that child. Changes apply to new calls straight away.
Are calls recorded?
No. Audio and video are transmitted in real time and are never recorded or stored by FriendBell.
How do friendships work?
Parents invite each other with a QR code or FriendBell ID. Both parents must approve before the two children can call. Kids never search for or add friends themselves.
What safety controls do parents have?
School Mode and Bedtime Mode block calls during set hours, per-friend blocking, family-level blocking, remote device revocation, and a Parent PIN gate on the child's device. Emergency contacts are always available.
Does FriendBell work on iPad?
Yes. Install FriendBell to the Home Screen and enable notifications so incoming calls ring the device even when the app is closed.
